Deb Aquila

After graduating from NYU’s TISCH SCHOOL of the ARTS, and the STELLA ADLER CONSERVATORY, Deborah Aquila began her casting career as an associate to Bonnie Timmermann. Together they worked on the first two seasons of “MIAMI VICE” and several feature films including Michael Mann’s “MAN HUNTER” and “THE POPE OF GREENWICH VILLAGE”. Her independent casting career began with Steven Soderbergh’s “sex, lies and videotape” and Uli Edel’s “THE LAST EXIT TO BROOKLYN”. Before moving to Los Angeles in 1993 to cast Frank Darabont’s “THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION”, Deborah had completed over 40 independent films, most notably, Steven Soderbergh’s “KING OF THE HILL”, Michael Tolkin’s “THE RAPTURE,” Joseph Vasquez’s “HANGIN WITH THE HOMEBOYS”, Steven Gyllenhaal’s “WATER LAND” and Tony Drazan’s “ZEBRA HEAD.”

In 1993 she was named Senior Vice-President of Features Casting for Paramount Pictures. During her 7 year tenure at the studio, the more notable films Deborah cast included: “PRIMAL FEAR”, “MISSION IMPOSSIBLE II”, “DOUBLE JEOPARDY”, “VIRTUOSITY”, “VARSITY BLUES”, “THE BRADY BUNCH”, “KISS THE GIRLS”, “MOTHER” and “WHAT WOMEN WANT.”

After departing Paramount Pictures in 1999, Deborah returned to the independent casting world with Sam Raimi’s “THE GIFT,” starring Cate Blanchett, and “What Women Want,” starring Mel Gibson, directed by Nancy Meyers. Recent and notable film credits include “THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE,” directed by Robert Schwentke, starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana, “THE ILLUSIONIST,” starring Edward Norton, directed by Neil Burger, “FLIGHT PLAN,” starring Jodie Foster, directed by Robert Schwentke, “THE HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG,” starring Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly, directed by Vadim Perelman, “THE HUMAN STAIN”, directed by Robert Benton, starring Anthony Hopkins and Nicole Kidman, “THE RUNAWAY JURY,” starring John Cusack, Gene Hackman, Rachel Weisz and Dustin Hoffman, directed by Gary Fleder, and the critically acclaimed television series “THE SHIELD,” and “Dexter.”

Deborah has been recognized eleven times by the Casting Society of America and in 2003, she was recognized by the Hollywood community with the HOLLYWOOD FILM FESTIVAL CAREER ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.
