Kevin Smith has started filming his second episode of “Supergirl.”
In an Instagram post he shared on Wednesday, Smith revealed that they have already finished filming three pages of the 52-page script of Season 2, episode 17. This is quite impressive considering the production is still in prep.
Smith also shared that they will film another seven pages of script today and will shoot with Kevin Sorbo and Teri Hatcher next week for their “cosmic storyline.” See Smith’s full Instagram post which comes with a photo with David Harewood below:
The Last Son of Mars! @davidharewood saves the @supergirlcw a fortune in visual fx every week by simply BEING the Martian Manhunter even without the costume and green head. We've had lots of live action Batmen, Spider-Men and Supermen - but there's only been one live action J'onn J'onzz (2 when you count Smallville, 3 if you count the Justice League pilot). But #davidharewood has been the best! I'm up in #vancouver shooting my second episode of #supergirl. We're in prep but shooting some stuff early. As of today (day 4 of prep) we've already shot 3 pages of our 52 page script, and we shoot another 7 pages tomorrow. Next week, I get to shoot with @officialterihatcher & @ksorbo! Wait 'til you see their cosmic storyline... #KevinSmith
Details about Sorbo and Hatcher’s villain roles are being kept under wraps, but the former recently revealed to Entertainment Tonight that he and Hatcher are playing husband and wife. Sorbo also added that their characters are “from another planet that is an arch-rival planet of Krypton.”
Smith — who directed “Supergirl” Season 2, episode 9 — explained to Comicbook.com why it wasn’t hard for him to say yes when “Supergirl” producers offered him the opportunity to direct episode 17.
“I fell in love with everybody up there, so it was easy to say ‘yeah,’” Smith told the news outlet. “It takes something special to make you put aside your own [stuff] when you’re creative, when you have the ability to make the stories you want to make. It’s fun to watch other people’s stories, [but] it’s just way more fun to make your own. So whenever you put your [stuff] aside, it has to be for something worthwhile.”
“Working on ‘Supergirl’ is like a month of your life, but I’d give it up in a heartbeat because the last experience I had was so rewarding and I was so happy with what we did,” Smith continued. “I like all the people up there, and I believe in the show in a big, bad way. It’s incredibly warm. It's just well-made entertainment, and it’s got something to it. It’s a little nourishing, it’s not just fast food. There’s always some heart to it.”
The air date for “Supergirl” Season 2, episode 17 has yet to be revealed, but an all-new episode of the Melissa Benoist-led series airs on Monday, Feb. 13 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. Check out the synopsis and trailer for Season 2, episode 12, titled “Luthors,” below:
“After Metallo (Frederick Schmidt) breaks out of prison and frees Lillian Luthor (Brenda Strong), the police blame Lena (Katie McGrath) for his escape and arrest her. Despite overwhelming evidence, Kara (Benoist) refuses to believe her friend is guilty and fights to clear Lena’s name. Flashbacks reveal how Lena came to be a Luthor. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) introduces Maggie (Floriana Lima) to the gang.”
